Frequently asked questions

What should you prepare before switching a POS?

Before switching, sort out five things: devices and network, menu and prices, accounts and permissions, fiscal and receipt settings, and a way back on cut day. Opening-day checks have their own guide.

Before switching to Catering POS or any other till, sort out five things: devices and network, menu and prices, staff accounts and permissions, the fiscal and receipt settings you can see in admin, and a plan to fall back to the old process if cut day goes wrong. This is preparation before the switch, separate from watching opening day hour by hour.

  1. Devices and network: how many terminals at peak, how printers/card readers connect, LAN stability, who restarts the router.
  2. Menu and prices: live names/sizes and real prices, tax symbols in use, surcharges; do not migrate dead items or half-finished test prices.
  3. People and permissions: who opens/closes, discounts, voids; who enters admin; change temp passwords after first login; revoke leavers before cut day.
  4. Fiscal / receipts / NTAK: check the fiscal and receipt settings visible in admin, and where NTAK report status can be seen. We do not handle registration for you and do not guarantee approval.
  5. Cut-day plan: off-peak window, a short menu with two payment methods, paper/old till backup the same day, and a pre-agreed same-day rollback call.

How this differs from the Opening-day POS checklist: that guide runs from 30 minutes before opening through to close, while this one only covers getting everything ready before the switch. The five items in full, and what they do not cover, are in What to prepare before switching; for features, see Features. We do not promise a migration tool, and we do not come on site to switch for you.
