A typical day
A typical day in this kind of shop runs roughly like this. Hungary's official list of venue types includes kávézó among others (see the NTAK hospitality info page); for how the software and the legal e-cash register divide the work, see the FAQ.
- Counter rush: choose eat-in or takeaway, enter the drink and its size or modifiers, take payment straight away, then start the next order.
- Preparation: orders go into preparation or are held; once a number is called or the order is collected, the table is cleared. Light food can go through core kitchen tasks.
- Mixed seating: some shops mostly serve at the counter and only occasionally open a table and add items; it is not a full table-by-table restaurant service.
- Regulars: if the store has enabled it, guests can pay with stored value, points or coupons.
- Close: follow up the business day / daily close, and once online and synced, check NTAK report status (pending / submitted).
How it works with the till
These tasks use general restaurant till features, not a POS built specially for cafes. The features involved:
- Quick counter ordering, eat-in, takeaway and pickup: Ordering and tables (quick counter ordering is part of that item too; the table map means venue and table setup, not a drag-and-drop floor plan).
- Pay-as-you-order, cash / card / mixed payment and receipts: Checkout, payments and receipts.
- Member stored value, points and coupons: Members, order centre and after-sales (whether they can be used at checkout depends on the store).
- Light food preparation tasks: Core kitchen tasks and terminal coordination (core kitchen tasks are handled by the system; the kitchen display is a plugin).
- Drink / dessert item records and basic inbound: Inventory and item master data.
- Daily close and NTAK report status: Fiscal and NTAK (not a substitute for a legal e-cash register; formal reporting while offline is not promised).
Less of a fit
- Table-heavy dining rooms that must arrange tables on a drag-and-drop floor plan (see the explanation on the Ordering and tables page).
- Expecting the software to come with acquiring hardware.
- Needing certification backing for the software, or using the software to replace a legal e-cash register.
